Professor Michele Elam Keynote Address & Workshop: The End of Race As We Know It?

The Census reveals that America’s racial landscape has dramatically transformed over the past decade: more than 9 million Americans identify with multiple races, and it is estimated that 20 % of the population will identify this way by 2050. The New York Times recently dubbed this demographic Generation E.A.--Ethnically Ambiguous. Professor Michele Elam offers a personal case study of racial ambiguity as a way to explore the political and cultural implications of what's being called the "new frontier of race."

In addition to her short lecture, Professor Elam will offer an interactive workshop that explores the complex ways we perceive race and ethnicity today, and why that matters in our everyday lives.
