This virtual event is open to all alumni in any location. All volunteers are welcome! No experience with social media or design apps required. You'll get super simple instructions. We are asking volunteers to contribute at least a total of three hours (cumulative) working at your own pace between now and May 31st -OR- 25 images (whichever comes first).

The goal of this project is to create social media content that will help increase college readiness among students of African descent and other students of color who are underrepresented in four-year colleges and universities. Volunteers will create social media posts of college readiness info for middle school and high school students. Contributions will be stored in a database and disseminated over the course of the year through special SBAA SoCal social media accounts to students, parents, and mentors who opt-in.

We have already partnered with a charter school in Los Angeles and 100 students in the 9th and 10th grades will be our (initial) audience. The information will be publicly accessible via internet (smart phone) to all interested students and in future months we will target efforts to reach more underrepresented student populations through school/community partnerships.

The official launch is August 2015 but we already have about 50 students and parents following the "beta" feed on Instagram. Register to view the live feed and get more details including phone/chat options.
