The heat kept most of us from completing the climb up Echo Mountain earlier this summer, so let's give this one another go!
Ranked by Sunset Magazine as one of the top 45 hikes in the West, the Sam Merrill Trail up Echo Mountain provides a rich history as well as stunning views. This moderately strenuous 5-6 mile hike will take us up to the ruins of the once magnificent Echo Mountain House, a Victorian hotel that opened in 1894 along the Mount Lowe Railway.
