NEW DATE + CONCERT: Spice up a winter afternoon with a tour of the mysterious art of Cuban printmaker Belkis Ayón, a female artist who made graphically powerful prints inspired by a secret "Afro-Cuban" society open only to men. The artist committed suicide in 1999 at 32. Her work was declared "patrimony" of Cuba and is usually not permitted to leave the country. This show at the Fowler Museum on the UCLA campus, "Nkame" or "Greeting", is the first exhibition of her art in the US. We will also tour an exhibit of powerful Cuban graphic art in the form of posters for cultural events, entitled "Black with a Drop of Red: Contemporary Cuban Poster Work". After the tour, at 2 p.m. there will be a free concert of Cuban Music. The campus also features a notable collection of outdoor sculptures if you want to stroll on your own.
