New members are always welcome to join our very informal book disucssion group.
We had thoughtful discussion on November 9 of Imperium: A Novel of Ancient Rome, by Robert Harris. Book Club members highly recommend this novel set in the midst of the world's first democracy.
The Stanford Book Salon choice for January is Macbeth's King Lear. We have chosen instead to read A Gentleman in Moscow, by Amor Towles.
Kirkus Reviews listed it as one of the best books of 2016.
"Sentenced to house arrest in Moscow's Metropol Hotel by a Bolshevik tribunal for writing a poem deemed to encourage revolt, Count Alexander Rostov nonetheless lives the fullest of lives, discovering the depths of his humanity." Read the full review here.
NPR also recommended it with this review on September 6.
A Gentleman in Moscow is available at local libraries in print, ebook and audio book formats, although wait times are long. It is also availble for purchase at the usual websites and book stores.
