Whether you are currently involved with the Stanford Book Salon or simply would like to talk about interesting books with other Stanford alumni and friends, this event is for you. The January/February book is Shakespeare's King Lear. We're going to make this an "all things Lear" event: think of all the myriad adaptations! Broken Lance, Ran, A Thousand Acres, King of Texas . . . and many more. Take a look at the online conversation from Stanford. Dig out your college paperback version and see if the marginal notes still make sense. Or take a look at James Shapiro's recent book, The Year of Lear, that chronicles what was going on in Shakespeare's England in 1606 (including the Gunpowder Plot!), when he was working on Lear, Macbeth, and Antony and Cleopatra. Come and have fun!
We'll meet in person, but space is limited, so sign up early!
