Come Join Stanford Black Alumni Association - Chicago for the Beyond the Farm alumni day of service!

We will be hosting a college readiness workshop with youth residents of the Oakwood Shores community in Bronzeville. Previously the site of several distressed public housing complexes, the housing and the neighborhood has been redeveloped by The Community Builders into a mixed-income community over the past 10+ years with supportive services and existing educational support and youth programming. This service event aims to build on a supportive community and encourage the residents to strive for competitive schools and consider academic paths they may not have otherwise.

The target audience for the workshop is students in 6th-9th grades so that we may both plant the seed of higher education and help participants obtain the tools and craft their path to college. The event will start with a Stanford-inspired ice-breaker, proceed to a panel anchored by a group of pre-selected volunteers, and will conclude with an interactive PowerPoint presentation with a series of break-out sessions allowing volunteers to work in small groups of Oakwood Shores youth.

This event and presentation materials are part of a national initiative that the Stanford National Black Alumni Association is conducting around college readiness.

Children 13 years or older are welcome to participate.
