Encouraging children to develop their intellectual passions while in a competitive, test-driven environment is a challenge many parents face. Join Stanford Professor Deborah Stipek for an evening discussing strategies on maintaining children’s enthusiasm for learning and helping them navigate the performance pressure prevalent in many schools and communities.
The event will be held at Livestrong HQ in east Austin, and light refreshments will be served beginning at 7pm with 30 min for socializing. The talk will begin at 7:30pm and last for approximately one hour. Please RSVP online ($10/adult; children under 13 free) before Apr. 12th to reserve your seat.
Deborah Stipek is the I. James Quillen dean of the Graduate School of Education, professor of education, and by courtesy psychology. Her research consists of instructional effects on children's achievement motivation, early childhood education, elementary education and school reform. In addition, she works with district, state, and federal policy makers on policies affecting children and education. She served for five years on the Board on Children, Youth and Families at the National Research Council, was Chair of National Research Council Committee for Increasing High School Students' Engagement and Motivation to Learn and she directed the MacArthur Foundation Network on Teaching and Learning. She is currently doing work related to early math teaching and learning.
