There is a huge need to increase the reading levels of youth in East Palo Alto. The majority of the youth in this neighboring community are reading below grade level with many youth apathetic and unaware of the effects of lower reading levels. If you want different for our youth, come out and support this event!

Please join fellow alumni in sharing the joy and fun of reading with youth and families at "Reading Bonanza in the Park."

Reading Bonanza in the Park is a free--and fun!--family literacy expo held at a park in East Palo Alto and open to the public. The event will consist of reading activities, games and entertainment hosted by volunteers and community organizations. Many community organizations have already signed up to be a part of this event as this will be the 5th annual event in East Palo Alto. Free books will be given to all youth attending. Free raffle prizes will be given out as incentives for youth to participate in the various planned reading activities. There will be tables and booths hosting on-going activities throughout the day as well as scheduled activities such as poetry workshops, on-stage entertainment, puppet show, and a Spelling Bee!

The purpose of the event is to showcase the diversity of books and promote the joy of reading. Families will be exposed to community resources, programs and various aspects of reading for entertainment, education and empowerment… all while having fun and getting free stuff!!

Please consider volunteering for this event. It takes a lot to put on an event like this and we need all the help we can get. The youth of East Palo Alto need your support!

Note: We welcome all ages (friends/family) to join you in this volunteer effort since we have various needs for volunteers.  If you are volunteering and have a little one (any age), they can either volunteer or participate in the event festivities.  This is an event that brings the community together.  We hope to see you there!
