Today's world needs leaders capable of leading with purpose. Successful leadership in today's fast-changing and challenging environments requires leaders who are intentional about developing their capabilities, mindsets, and support systems.

In this LEAD Preview, we take a close look at an essential leadership competency: communication. As a leadership competency, communication involves not only conveying what you want other people to understand or believe, but also being able to connect with others in a meaningful, purposeful, and impactful way.

  • Learn specific ways to improve your communication confidence and effectiveness
  • Understand the sources of anxiety in high-stakes leadership communication situations and implement techniques and strategies for managing it.
  • Practice using goal, structure, and paraphrasing to plan communications and communicate more effectively.
  • Recognize your own communication strengths and weaknesses.

What to expect:

  • A virtual live kickoff session on Wednesday, July 11, 8:00 - 9:00 a.m. Pacific Time, hosted by a Lead course facilitator and GSB alumnus, Jonathan Daves. This session will introduce participants to the course content and will give more information on the full LEAD Certificate program if you're interested in learning more.
  • Video lectures, study course materials, and complete an assignment, about 1.5 hours of work
  • A fully facilitated self-paced experience
  • A virtual live interactive session led by Professors Brian Lowery and Sarah Soule from 11:00AM to 12:00PM Pacific Time on Tuesday, July 24, 2018

All session content will be recorded so you can tune in later if you can't join in live at that time. This course is open to all Stanford and GSB alumni and any interested non-alumni.
