Join SPIE for an up-close tour of the Los Esteros Critical Energy Facility on August 30th!

Led by plant manager Terry Mahone, we will get to see one of the cleanest projects of its kind in the state.

This is a natural gas combined cycle (NGCC) plant, where the exhaust from the gas turbine is used to create steam that drives a steam generator. NGCC plants are the largest source of baseload electricity generation in the country.

It is a 309 MW plant, consisting of four aero-derivative combustion turbines, four heat recovery steam generators, and one steam turbine.

Calpine, the plant operator, is the largest provider of electricity from natural gas and geothermal resources in the United States.
