This session, we'll discuss The Doorman by Reinaldo Arenas, published in 1987. This novel, set in the United States, breaks ground with the story of a young Cuban refugee who becomes a doorman at a luxury apartment building. Alienated from the tenants, he is seduced by their pets, who are determined to revolt against humans and human society.
Arenas' autobiography, Before Night Falls, was a New York Times bestseller. The book was made into a movie, starring Javier Bardem as Arenas and directed by Julian Schnabel.
