Virtual Event: Book Club - Citizens United v. FEC

At the talk on Constitutional Law last fall, we were encouraged to read key U.S. Supreme Court decisions to further our understanding of the U.S. Constitution and the arguments for and against the decisions. Being an election year, the book club opted to read Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission (2010), a landmark decision concerning campaign finance that remains highly controversial. The Court held that the free speech clause of the First Amendment prohibits the government from restricting independent expenditures for political communications by corporations, including nonprofit corporations, labor unions, and other associations.
