Please join the Stanford Club of Marin as we host our first virtual gathering on Thursday, April 16th, from 6:30 - 8:00 PM. We will use the Zoom videoconferencing platform, which you can use on your computer, smartphone, or tablet.

From 6:30-7:00 PM, we’ll host a virtual happy hour where registered guests have an opportunity to catch up with others in small groups while enjoying a drink from home.

At 7:00 PM, we will host award-winning journalist, John Pomfret (B.A. ‘81, M.A. ‘84), who will discuss what the Chinese government’s handling of the outbreak reveals about the Chinese political system, as well as the country’s relationship with the world as the pandemic grows.

Pomfret, who started his career at the Stanford Daily, was a foreign correspondent for 20 years and spent time in Afghanistan, Bosnia, Congo, Sri Lanka, and Iraq. He covered China during the Tiananmen Square protests in the late 1980s, and then served as the bureau chief for The Washington Post in Beijing from 1997-2003. He has written two acclaimed books, “Chinese Lessons: Five Classmates and the Story of the New China” (1996) and “The Beautiful Country and the Middle Kingdom: America and China, 1776 to the Present” (2016).

The event is free, but we ask that you register for the event. Once you register, you will receive detailed information about how to downlad Zoom and log in from your device.

See you (online) on April 16!
