Kimberly Chrisman-Campbell '94 is a fashion historian, curator, and journalist, and the recipient of a 2020 NEH Public Scholar award. She is the author of Fashion Victims: Dress at the Court of Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette (Yale, 2015), Worn on This Day: The Clothes That Made History (Running Press, 2019), and the forthcoming The Way We Wed: A Global History of Wedding Fashion (Running Press, Dec 2022).

Kimberly will discuss her book, Worn on This Day: The Clothes That Made History, which looks at garments worn on monumental occasions across centuries, offering capsule fashion histories of everything from space suits to wedding gowns, sports uniforms, and armor. It creates thought-provoking juxtapositions, like the battered shoes worn by Marie-Antoinette and a World Trade Center survivor to escape certain death, just a few calendar days apart. In every case there is a newsworthy narrative behind the garment, whether famous and glamorous or anonymous and humble. Prominent figures like Abraham Lincoln, Marilyn Monroe, and the Duchess of Cambridge are represented alongside ordinary people caught up in extraordinary events. Beautifully illustrated throughout, Worn on This Day is a revelatory mash-up of styles, innovations, and personalities. Stanford Magazine called it "a meticulous, fascinating collection of stories."
