Fairmount Park’s Boxers’ Trail

Saturday November 14, 2020 (Rain Date 11/15/2020)

Join us for an autumn hike in east Fairmount Park.  This hike will follow the Boxers' Trail, which follows the spine of the hills above Kelly Drive. Halfway, we'll stop at Laurel Hill Mansion, a historic residence perched high above the Schuylkill.

This is a 3+ mile medium difficulty hike with some ups and downs.  A mix of forest and fields.  Trails are unimproved, so sturdy sneakers or light hiking boots are a must.  Dogs welcome (on a leash).  Kids welcome, too.    Bring water and light snack and dress for conditions of the day.  Restroom facilities (port-o-potties) are available at the beginning, middle, and end of the hike.

Parking:  There is a small gravel parking lot on the north side of Reservoir Rd.  Google Maps is pretty accurate with this address.  Also can park in the larger Sedgley Woods Disc Golf Course / Strawberry Green Driving Range gravel lot across the street.  Back-up is to just park on the street.

Please Register so that we can contact you if we need to cancel the hike because of weather(provide your email address, phone number, and the names of your guests)

COVID announcement:  We will take standard COVID precautions during the hike.  Masks are mandatory during the meet-up period when we will be gathered together prior to starting.  During the hike, they will be optional as we will be spread out in the open air (part of the reason for doing the hike!), and there is very little traffic on this trail.  Family or friends groups can stay closer together during the walk, so that is another approach to limit contact.  The whole point is to provide an outdoor activity that most experts agree has minimal risks and maximal benefits in the current situation.
