Join us on a trip back in time to learn about the gastronomical legacy of some of San Francisco's iconic Italian restaurants. Some are still thriving today, others live on only in people's vivid memories of good times, good food, and good company.

While we can't even begin to cover all the Italian restaurants that have made a mark on the City, SF newcomers and old-timers alike will enjoy this historical restaurant romp featuring "legacy" restaurants that first opened their doors 50 or more years ago. Deanna Gumina and Catherine Accardi will start in the early days of San Francisco. You'll learn or reminisce about:

  • restaurants whose doors have closed that we miss (or missed out on) such as Coppas, Caesars, Old Spaghetti Factory, Blue Fox, Paolis and more;
  • restaurants you can still enjoy in their latest incarnation including Fior d'Italia, New Pisa, Gold Spike, Cafe Sport, U.S. Restaurant; and
  • restaurants we hope to dine at again soon, like Julius' Castle!
Following a photo and story filled guided presentation on some Italian restaurants that made their mark on San Francisco, we invite you to share your stories of memories of special occasions, favorite dishes, and fun times you've had at legacy SF restaurants.

Anyone who loves SF history is welcome to join us!
