Cybersecurity: Protection of our Past, Present, and Future
There have been a number of cyber attacks in the recent news, leaving many Americans concerned about the safety of their personal information. The invention of public key cryptography has guarded the transactions of trillions of dollars, a myriad of government secrets, and other classified information since the 1970's. Join Stanford Professor and cryptography expert, Martin Hellman for a lively discussion on the history of cybersecurity, and what we can expect on the horizon to guard our future.

Martin E. Hellman, MS '67, PhD '69 is an emeritus professor of electrical engineering from Stanford University. He is best known for his invention of public key cryptography, the technology that enables secure Internet transactions and is used to transfer literally trillions of dollars every day. His work has been recognized by a number of honors and awards, including election to the National Academy of Engineering and induction as one of the first two dozen "Stanford Engineering Heroes." Hellman has a deep interest in the ethics of technological development, and currently is applying risk analysis to nuclear deterrence.
