Join us as we welcome Susan Jaques, BA '80, as she discusses her new book: The Empress of Art: Catherine the Great and the Transformation of Russia. The book explores Catherine the Great's extraordinary reign through the lens of art and architecture. After seizing power from her husband, Catherine II embarked on a 30-year spending spree, founding the Hermitage Museum and turning St. Petersburg into a beautiful neoclassical city.
Since the book's publication this spring, Susan has spoken at the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, DC, the Ellison Center for Russian Studies at the University of Washington in Seattle, and the Arts Club of Chicago. Copies of the book will be available to purchase at the event.
