Leland Stanford experienced some tough campaigns in the early decades of California’s statehood, but the rough and tumble then pales in comparison to this year’s historic race. In honor of our university’s 125th anniversary, Professor Bruce Cain will analyze the presidential election and what it means for our state and nation.

Dr. Cain is the Spence and Cleone Eccles Director of the Bill Lane Center for the American West and has written extensively on effective governance and public policy, including books on reapportionment, constitutional reform, the referendum process, recall elections, and changing voter demographics.

The address, which will be given in the Shriner’s Hospital auditorium in Sacramento, will commemorate the opening of Stanford University on October 1, 1891, and is titled A Most Peculiar Election: The 2016 Presidential Race. Hors d’oeuvres and beverages will be offered prior to the talk, with a facilitated question and answer period following Dr. Cain’s remarks.
