A proposal for Stanford Club of Southern Nevada alumni discussions

Have you ever thought how nice it would be to return to a Stanford classroom in which you are both the teacher and the student?  Well, now you have that chance!  We are proposing a periodic discussion group in which members of the Stanford community can meet to discuss a topic that is on your mind. Meetings would last from one to two hours depending on the number and nature of topics.

RSVP to Herman Kelting, '58, at tergie@cox.netto add your name so we can set up a time and place for the first meeting. Send any topic proposals too.

General Criteria and Guidelines for discussion topics

  • Topics about which you have special expertise and experience. The presenter in this case would describe his or her idea and then at least equal time answering questions or having others discuss their experience with the presenter’s topic.
  • Topics about which you have an interest with no special expertise and experience. The presenter would explain why the topic was of interest and perhaps what he or she would like to achieve in the discussion. Examples of non-expertise topics:
  1. Discussions of business activities in general and for specific companies.
  2. Improvements to education and skills for lower income families.
  3. Tactics in political campaigns.
  • Topics that predict and question futuristic proposals.  Examples include:
  1. Driverless vehicles.
  2. The effect of automation and artificial intelligence on job creation in the 21st century.
  3. Resource allocations in the 21st Century given slow job growth.
  4. Trends in music and the arts in the 21st Century.
  • Topics related to Stanford
  1. Stories of how your experience at Stanford contributed to your professional careers.
  2. Personal experiences at Stanford that you most enjoyed.
  3. Personal experiences that led you to Stanford.
  • Any other topic that you believe will promote good and lively discussions.
