Join fellow alumni for a fascinating talk on our most precious resource, water. The lovely Round Pond Estate in Rutherford is the setting for this talk, which will be followed by a casual wine and appetizer reception on the Round Pond terrace. Stanford Alumni in Napa events are open to all alumni, family and friends.

Stanford professor Buzz Thompson will present his talk titled Water in California: A State of Extremes

From a record-breaking drought to record-setting rainfall, the last five years have wreaked havoc on much of the state and demonstrated the extreme water conditions that have long plagued California.  Combine California's historical weather with climate change, population growth, and changing environmental preferences, and you have a perfect storm of water challenges.  Professor Thompson will explain the history of water extremes in California, explore what may be in store for us in the future, and identify some promising solutions going forward.
