Social networks seem so modern. But are they? Benjamin Franklin was not only one of the most famous Americans of his time, he was also one of the most connected people in the history of the world. Recent revolutions in Big Data at Stanford University have allowed us to see Franklin’s world in new ways. Join Stanford Humanities Center director Caroline Winterer for an exploration of how social network analysis can show us something new about an American founding father we think we know so well, and how Franklin’s social network can tell us something new about ourselves.

Watch the 2-min. Smithsonian video about Caroline’s Franklin project for which she received the Smithsonian Ingenuity Award.

Check in and reception with wine and light dinner:  6:30 p.m.

Lecture begins at 7:00 p.m.
